The Secretary of the Army paying a visit to Lackawanna County today, making a stop at the Scranton Army Ammunition plant.
Secretary Christine Wormuth, along with Senator Bob Casey, toured the facility to support warfighter and nationwide development efforts.
The Scranton Army Ammunition plant welcomed the 25th Secretary of the Army Christine Wormuth.
Wormuth, accompanied by Senator Casey getting a look at the manufacturing facility that's a leading producer of larger-caliber artillery metal parts and components.
“It’s almost has if, they just kind of appear out of thin air. You get into the plant, and you see that it actually takes 3 whole days to from when they cut the steel into a bullet to a finished casing."
“It was fantastic to see the pride that the workforce has and what they are doing.” said Wormuth.
Both the Senator and the Secretary stressed the importance of the work being done here at the installation.
“The best of America is right here in Scranton, Pennsylvania.” said Senator Bob Casey.
FOX56 is told the 155-millimeter artillery shells are important not only for the U.S but helps support Ukraine.
“And what we’ve been doing is providing from our stockpiles to the Ukrainians.”
“So, what these shells have allowed the Ukrainian armed forces to do is to be able to strike farther away”
Wormuth tells FOX56 the $243 Million funding from congress is being invested into arsenals for machines to speed up production.
“What that is allowing us to do is to move out more quickly on that 15-year plan. "added Wormuth.
Senator Bob Casey explains how America can be proud on what their tax dollars have meant to Ukrainians.
“The efforts that have been undertaken by American people through tax dollars, working with member of congress and the administration to get the people of Ukraine the support they need both military support and other. “ said Casey.
Senator Bob Casey also telling FOX56 that he will continue to push back at Russia's president at all costs and support the appropriations to do so.
